About Our Pest Control Services

What pest control services does Defender Pest offer?

Defender Pest provides year-round residential and commercial pest control services across Michigan. Our flagship offering is the Tri-Annual 360° Pest Control Program, which includes three seasonal treatments timed to Michigan's pest cycles. We also offer targeted treatment for specific pest problems.

What pests do you treat?

We treat a wide range of common Michigan pests including ants, spiders, stinging insects, beetles, stink bugs, centipedes, millipedes, flies, and more.

Some pests require their own dedicated treatment program outside of our standard service. Mosquitoes, fleas, and ticks are each treated through their own seasonal programs. Bed bugs and cockroaches also require specialized treatment plans. If you're dealing with any of these, just let us know and we'll walk you through the right option for your situation.

Do you offer commercial pest control services?

Yes. Defender Pest provides pest control services for both residential and commercial properties across Southeast Michigan. Whether you manage a small office or a larger commercial property, we can build a pest management plan around your specific needs.

What areas do you serve?

We serve Brighton, Canton, Grand Blanc, Lansing, Rochester Hills, Saginaw, and the greater Detroit metro area.

Treatment and Process

What should I expect from the pest control process?

Every service starts with a thorough inspection of your property. Our pest control professional will identify active pest activity, likely entry points, and nesting areas before recommending a treatment plan. We use integrated pest management principles combined with EPA-approved products to treat and eliminate pests safely and effectively.

How does your Tri-Annual 360° Program work?

Our program includes three scheduled treatments per year in spring, summer, and early fall. Each visit covers the full perimeter of your home, including foundations, doors, windows, soffits, eaves, and gutters. After each visit you will receive a detailed service report. If pests return between treatments, we come back at no additional charge.

How long does a treatment take?

Most standard treatments take between 30 and 60 minutes depending on the size of your property. Our pest control professional will let you know what to expect before they get started.

Do I need to prepare my home before a treatment?

For most exterior treatments, minimal preparation is needed. We recommend keeping pets indoors during the service and for a short period after application. For interior treatments, our team will provide specific preparation instructions in advance based on the pest problem being addressed.

Are your products safe for my family and pets?

Yes. We use only EPA-approved products applied by trained professionals following all label instructions and safety protocols. Our integrated pest management approach prioritizes targeted, low-impact treatments to eliminate pests while minimizing exposure to your family, pets, and the surrounding environment.

Will one treatment be enough to get rid of pests?

For most pests, an initial treatment addresses the active problem and a follow-up schedule helps prevent future infestations. Pest prevention is most effective as an ongoing effort. Year-round pest control is the best long term solution for keeping your home consistently protected and pest activity at bay.

Bed Bugs

How do I know if I have bed bugs?

Bed bugs are small, reddish brown insects roughly the size of a sesame seed or grain of rice. Signs of bed bugs include small blood stains on bedding, dark spots on mattress seams, shed skins, and bites on your skin. Bed bugs are known for hiding in small cracks near sleeping areas and can be difficult to identify without a professional inspection.

How do you treat bed bugs?

Bed bug treatment requires a specialized pest control process separate from our standard program. Our pest control professional will inspect the affected areas, confirm the presence of adult bed bugs, and recommend a targeted treatment plan. Treatment typically involves multiple service visits to fully eliminate the infestation and prevent future infestations from taking hold.

Can I get rid of bed bugs on my own?

Bed bugs are among the most difficult pests to eliminate without professional help. DIY methods are rarely effective against an active bed bug infestation. Professional pest control services with targeted treatment plans are the most reliable way to get rid of bed bugs and keep them from coming back.

How do bed bugs spread?

Bed bugs are expert hitchhikers. They spread through luggage, clothing, used furniture, and other items brought into the home. They are common in hotels, multi-family housing, and anywhere people frequently come and go. If you suspect you have been exposed, contact us for a free inspection before the problem spreads.

Mosquitoes and Stinging Insects

Why are mosquitoes a concern beyond being a nuisance?

Mosquitoes are more than just an annoyance. They are known carriers of West Nile virus and other diseases that pose real health risks to humans. The National Pest Management Association recommends proactive mosquito control as part of an overall pest prevention strategy. Eliminating standing water around your property and scheduling regular treatments are two of the most effective ways to control mosquito populations.

What stinging insects do you treat?

We treat a range of stinging insects including wasps, hornets, bees, and other stinging insect species active in Michigan. Stinging insects can be dangerous, particularly for individuals with allergies. We do not provide services for honeybees or cicada killers which are beneficial to the local environment. If you have identified a nest or notice increased stinging insect activity on your property, contact us promptly. Do not attempt to treat stinging insects on your own.

General Pest Prevention

What can I do to help prevent pests between treatments?

Pest prevention starts with removing the conditions pests need to survive. Some proactive steps include sealing entry points around doors, windows, and your foundation, eliminating food sources and standing water, keeping firewood and debris away from your home, and storing pet food in sealed containers. Regular inspections and a scheduled treatment plan are your best defense against recurring pest problems.

Are pests more active in certain seasons?

Yes. Most pests follow seasonal patterns tied to temperature and moisture. In Michigan, mosquitoes and stinging insects peak in summer, while rodents and overwintering bugs like stink bugs become more active in fall as temperatures drop. Some pests including termites and cockroaches remain active year-round. A proactive, year-round pest control program is the most effective way to stay ahead of pest activity in every season.

What is integrated pest management?

Integrated pest management, or IPM, is an approach to pest control that combines inspection, prevention, targeted treatment, and ongoing monitoring to manage pest problems with minimal environmental impact. It is the standard recommended by the National Pest Management Association and the foundation of how Defender Pest approaches every job. Rather than relying solely on chemical treatments, IPM focuses on understanding pest behavior and addressing the root causes of pest problems.
